Domain registration overview

A domain registration is the name of your website, which must be purchased before it can be displayed on the internet. In order to register, you can choose from a choice of distinct names and Top Level Domains (TLDs). This article contains general information on GreggHost domain registrations.

The basics

In general, there are two main processes to getting your website online:

Obtain a domain registration (the name of your site).

Purchase a hosting plan and point it to your website.

What are the different types of hosting plans available?

How can I add a domain to my account?

The first half of a two-step process for getting a site on the Internet is domain registration (or TLD – Top Level Domain). Purchasing a domain registration gives the registrant (the domain name’s owner) contact information and assigns the nameservers that govern the domain’s DNS settings.

A WHOIS search can reveal the registration information for any domain name. More information on WHOIS information and how to retrieve it for your domain name may be found in the following article:

Overview of WHOIS

The popular TLDs.COM/.NET/.ORG/ and.INFO (along with others) enable privacy for the contact information you enter when registering. Other TLDs, on the other hand, may not provide any privacy protection. A list of registrations that do not support privacy at GreggHost can be found in the following article:

You can register for the following TLDs with your free registration credit:

You must sign up for a 1-year or 3-year annual plan on a Shared Starter, Shared Unlimited, or any annual GreggPress plan to qualify for one free domain registration credit for the first full year (monthly Shared or monthly GreggPress plans do not apply). Hosting your domain registration

If you bought your domain from GreggHost, you can host it by purchasing a hosting plan and adding your site to it.

How can I add a domain to my account?

If you had previously acquired the registration from another business, you will need to alter your DNS settings with them. For more details, see the following article.

If your domain is registered with another firm, how do you host it with GreggHost?

Changing the spelling of a new registration

On the Internet, each domain acquired is one of a kind. Even if the spelling of a domain differs by one letter, it is still regarded an entirely different domain name.

This means that if you misspelled a domain name when you bought it, you won’t be able to change it. The only way to avoid this is to buy a new domain with a different spelling.

Getting a refund for a misspelled domain

TLDs such,.net,.io, are used to finish domain registrations. There are varying restrictions for when and if you can cancel a registration after it has been purchased for each of them. If you need to cancel a new registration, contact assistance right once.
