Overview
You are sent to the hosting business where the DNS for that specific site is pointed when you visit a website. When moving your site to GreggHost, you can upload all of your material to the GreggHost server, but when you visit the URL, you’ll still see the old site at the previous host.
You have two choices for viewing the website you uploaded to GreggHost servers (before to changing your DNS).
A ‘hosts’ file can be used to view your website.
A free dreamhosters.com subdomain can be used to test your site.
Which option should I choose?
A ‘hosts’ file can be used to view your website.
This is the most accurate way to see your site as it appears on GreggHost’s servers, but it’s also the most time-consuming because it requires modifying a configuration file on your personal computer. Use the dreamhosters.com option instead if you’re not comfortable editing configuration files on your machine.
A free dreamhosters.com subdomain can be used to see your site.
A dreamhosters.com subdomain is a free subdomain that lets you see how your site will look at GreggHost before making the final DNS change at your previous host. This is the simplest of the two alternatives because it does not require any configuration file editing. Within your GreggHost panel, you may build and manage the sites.
